Picarlo E-Bike Conversion Kit: Choose the Right BK Series Upgrade

Choosing a Picarlo e-bike conversion kit starts with one question: what kind of riding do you actually want the bike to do? Daily commuting, private off-road riding, and demanding terrain place very different demands on the motor, controller, battery, brakes, frame, and wheel mounting.

We currently offer three BK Series systems: the BK750 Urban Upgrade Kit, BK1010 Off-Road Performance Kit, and BK1510 Off-Road Power Kit. Although the collection is called “conversion kits,” these systems are designed to upgrade compatible e-bikes that already have an electric drive system. They are not intended to turn a conventional non-electric bicycle into an e-bike.

That distinction matters because a safe upgrade is about the complete system, not simply choosing the highest wattage. Compatibility, intended use, local rules, and service access should all be considered before ordering.

Quick Comparison: BK750 vs BK1010 vs BK1510

Kit Rated power Best fit Use note
BK750 750W Everyday and urban-oriented upgrades Public-road use depends on the complete bike configuration and applicable law
BK1010 1000W Stronger off-road acceleration and climbing Off-road or private-property use only where permitted
BK1510 1500W Higher-output riding on demanding terrain Off-road or private-property use only where permitted

BK750: The Urban-Oriented Upgrade

The BK750 is our most everyday-focused option. Its 750W R750 motor is paired with the CC06 controller, and current configurations offer TC635 or TC640 displays plus a thumb or twist throttle. The kit also includes a cadence sensor and extension wiring harness, with the motor pre-installed in the wheel and tire assembly.

If you already own a compatible e-bike, the BK750 can make sense when you want stronger support for starts, hills, and regular daily riding without moving into our higher-output off-road range.

Important: “urban-oriented” does not automatically mean a particular setup is legal everywhere on public roads. E-bike definitions, throttle rules, assisted-speed limits, and motor-power rules vary by state and locality. The finished bike must comply with the rules where it will be used.

BK1010: More Output for Private Off-Road Riding

The BK1010 steps up to a 1000W R1010 motor and a higher-output CC05 controller. We position it for off-road riding where stronger takeoff and climbing support are useful on uneven terrain.

Because the system increases load on the frame, brakes, battery, controller, connectors, and rear wheel mounting, compatibility becomes even more important. We identify the BK1010 as an off-road or private-property product. Use it only in locations where this type of vehicle is permitted and where you have permission to ride.

BK1510: Highest Output in the BK Series

The BK1510 is the highest-powered option in the current BK Series at 1500W. It is intended for riders looking for more output for demanding private off-road terrain, including steeper climbs and heavier recreational use.

This is also the option where a thorough bike inspection matters most. The frame, brake system, wheel mounting, battery output, controller compatibility, connectors, and wiring all need to be appropriate for the additional load. We identify the BK1510 for off-road or private-property use only where legally permitted.

Why Matched Components Matter

An e-bike upgrade is not just a motor swap. The motor, controller, display, throttle, cadence sensor, wiring, battery, wheel assembly, brakes, and bike frame all interact. A mismatch can create poor performance, error codes, overheating, unreliable assistance, or safety problems.

We sell the BK Series as pre-matched systems rather than asking you to assemble unrelated electrical parts from different suppliers. Depending on the selected configuration, the kit includes the motor wheel and pre-fitted tire, matched controller, selected display, selected throttle, cadence sensor, and extension harness. Always confirm the final contents shown on the product page and at checkout.

TC635 or TC640? Thumb or Twist Throttle?

The display and throttle choice is partly about how you prefer to interact with the bike. The TC635 is our simpler everyday display option, while the TC640 is our upgraded smart-display option. Both still need to match the selected controller and kit configuration.

For the throttle, a thumb throttle uses a lever pressed by the thumb, while a twist throttle is operated by rotating part of the grip. Comfort, handlebar layout, riding habits, and local rules should all be considered before choosing.

Compatibility Is More Than Wheel Size

A wheel diameter that appears to match is not enough to confirm fit. Before ordering, review the complete bike and electrical system. We may ask for your bike model, battery label, measurements, and clear photos so our team can identify obvious compatibility concerns before installation.

  • Wheel setup and rear dropout spacing
  • Frame and fork condition
  • Brake type and brake condition
  • Battery voltage, current output, connector and physical condition
  • Controller and display requirements
  • Existing wiring and connector condition
  • Handlebar space for the selected display and throttle
  • Where and how the upgraded bike will be ridden

A battery is not compatible simply because its voltage falls inside a stated range. Current output, connector type, condition, controller requirements, and the rest of the electrical system also matter.

DIY Installation or Professional Installation?

We provide step-by-step installation videos for riders who have the right tools and experience. DIY installation may be appropriate if you are comfortable working with e-bike wiring, motor wheels, brakes, sensors, and electrical connections.

If you are unsure about fitment, brake suitability, wheel mounting, electrical compatibility, or troubleshooting, professional installation is the better route. A technician can inspect the complete bike before or during the upgrade instead of discovering a problem after the system has already been installed.

Check the Rules Before You Ride

E-bike rules vary by state and locality, and higher-output vehicles may fall outside standard e-bike classifications. Our 1000W and 1500W kits are marked for off-road or private-property use. For any setup, you are responsible for checking the laws and access rules that apply where you plan to ride.

For a state-by-state starting point, review the PeopleForBikes e-bike law guide.

Final Takeaway

The best Picarlo e-bike conversion kit is not automatically the most powerful one. Choose the BK750 for an urban-oriented upgrade on a compatible existing e-bike, the BK1010 for stronger private off-road performance, or the BK1510 for the highest-output private off-road use. Then confirm that the bike, battery, brakes, wiring, and riding environment actually support that choice.

If you are not certain which configuration fits your e-bike, contact us with your bike details and photos before ordering. A compatibility check is a much better starting point than guessing from wheel size or wattage alone.
